In anticipation of the adoption of the NYS Science Learning Standards, Erie 2 and Cattaraugus Allegany BOCES partnered with school districts and teachers to build a new STEM curriculum for use in BOCES science kit programs throughout Western New York. With the goal being to write a K-5 curriculum entirely designed by and for practicing teachers, it was crucial to develop a thoughtful approach to the professional development workdays. In this session, we'll discuss how to design a process for constructing a STEM curriculum that gets results. Join our STEM Coordinators as they walk through the steps we took to gain district and teacher buy-in, helped teachers build familiarity and understanding of the standards, dug deep into the design of 3-dimensional teaching, established lessons built on the 5E lesson model, and set standards and structures for ensuring the completion of work product. We promise you'll leave itching to get started on your own curriculum writing project.1.
