We will present a model of cooperative professional development with a local maker space. Working with community makers, schools can enhance their scope and reach while leveraging resources and developing local partnerships. Bringing maker concepts to core curriculum dynamically enhances engagement and increases content relevance. Maker philosophy fosters content learning as well as real world work skills such as collaboration, problem solving, and knowledge synthesis. Participants will walk away with a blueprint for building a working relationship with community makers along with ideas for bringing maker philosophy into their schools and classrooms. Key ideas include making students responsible for their own learning while focusing on classroom deliverables and meaningful content delivery.
